Better Gas Mileage

The rising price of gasoline is reducing our buying power and there is little we can do about that. But what we can do is, get more miles out of the gas we buy. Getting better gas mileage & gasoline conservation is our only way out of this dilemma! I have started this Blog to inform people about what they can do to conserve gasoline and the current issues in the petroleum industry that may affect the price of gasoline. Gas & Oil News

The deluge that overwhelmed the central southern region of the US has crippled a dozen oil refineries and reaped havoc throughout the petroleum supply chain. Bush has opened the Strategic Oil Reserves to help offset the Crude Oil disruption but that will not do anything to curb the inevitable price spike soon to come at the pumps. All the Crude Oil in the world will not translate into usable gasoline without refinery capacity, and that has been, and now more than ever is the problem with US gasoline prices.

Light Crude Oil blew right through the 70's today along with the winds of "Katrina"! The damage reports to refineries in that region won't be available for several days. There have been reports some drilling platforms are adrift in the Gulf and the worst is yet to come. Half of all US Crude Oil enters through The Gulf of Mexico and it will take weeks and in some cases months before systems and production will be back to pre-storm levels. This will cause a vertical move for prices at the bump and the time is approaching for refineries to start building up inventories of heating fuels, another tax on a half broken system.
Markets across the globe have taken a hit due to potential world wide economic slow-down caused by the impact of Katrina!

Gas & Oil News

We have all dodged a bullet that could have very well sent Crude Oil much higher than the record it set today selling at a high of $69.10. But look out for the next couple of days. The temporary disruption of the supply of Crude Oil caused by "Katrina" has put the markets on edge, to say the least. It was good news the storm didn't do nearly as much damage as was first feared. It will take some time to get all the systems back on line to bring the supply of Crude Oil back to pre-storm levels. The majority of normal operations will be back on line in the matter of days, or in some cases weeks, depending on where and how hard they were hit. In the worst damaged areas it could take up to 6 months to resume full production and this will add a long-term drain on supply that will reflect in gasoline prices at the pump.
The National Average Price for Regular Unleaded Gasoline inched up Two Tenth's of a Cent from Friday and is at $2.603 a gallon. Expect 10 to 20 cent a gallon price increases at the pump this week!

Tropical depression 12 is about to enter the Gulf of Mexico VIA the southern tip of Florida in a Westward sweep and has just been up-graded to a Tropical Storm named Katrina. This could mean a restriction in the supply of Crude Oil in that region that will add up-ward price pressure on both gas and oil.

Good news for Oil and bad news for Gas!
The good news today was Light Crude Oil dropped almost $3 and settled at $63.04. This comes on the news refineries have ample supplies to last through the summer driving season.
The bad news is The National Average Price for a Gallon of Regular Unleaded Gasoline increased another 4 cents from yesterday and is now at $2.564 a gallon,
setting yet another record.
With Crude Oil showing some sings of pulling back from that record breaking run-up last week, Gasoline Prices should start leveling off in the up coming week.
